Seminar overview:

Since 2012 a Joint Venture (JV) between Costain – Skanska has been busily constructing the new £450m Crossrail Paddington Station as part of the soon to be Elizabeth Line. With both a challenging location and environment, and in particular heritage constraints associated with it, this is one of an impressive suite of new stations being delivered by Crossrail. This seminar will take a look at the construction of this sub surface station and the approach the contractor took to construct it before turning the attention to a significant unforeseen technical challenge encountered. It will also look at the impact the challenge had on client-contractor relationships and how these were maintained to focus on solution delivery. Following this, the tangible outcomes and implications on future specifications and approaches to future projects to avoid reoccurrence are presented.
