Cambridge University Geotechnical Society

Welcome to the Cambridge University Geotechnical Society

The student run society was founded in 2015, to build a link between industrial partners and academia in geotechnical engineering. Within the first two years of activity, the Cambridge University Geotechnical Society has attracted more than 160 members from industry and academia. The rapid growth in membership shows that the Society is responding to a general demand.

To date, the Society has arranged various site visits and during the academic term holds biweekly public talks encompassing topics such as tunnelling, landslides, deep excavations, earthquakes and offshore geotechnics. The interest has been such that we have been fortunate to secure as speakers renowned industrial and academic experts including Professor John Burland, Dr Brian Simpson, Professor Lidija Zdravkovic and Dr Suzanne Lacasse. A special event on Knowledge Development and Transfer in Geotechnical Engineering, with Nick O'Riordan and Professor Malcolm Bolton as speakers, has been one of the highlights of the Society's activities to date. Events are held in various Colleges in Cambridge in an effort to share some of the University’s culture.
